Yacht covers stolen on the Isle of Wight
Posted on January 31st 2012
Yacht owners will be checking their yacht insurance policies with regard to boats stored at a boat yard in Yarmouth this week. They will be checking to arrange claims after becoming victims of thefts reported in the Isle of Wight County Press. Two yachts had their boat covers stolen during the night and police are now investigating the thefts.
The covers were custom fitted to each individual yacht, and very large and heavy. It would have taken the thieves quite a while to remove the covers from the boats, and pack them away for transportation, but that obviously did not deter them.
Any yacht insurance customers in the area should check their policies to make sure that accessories like boat covers are covered, and be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour around their boats.
Police have appealed to the public for any information regarding the theft, which they believed occurred at some point between 6pm on Sunday January 22nd and 9.30am on Monday January 23rd. Anyone passing by the boat yard, located just off of Bridge Road in Yarmouth, during this period of time is requested to the Police Station at Yarmouth.
This incident goes to show that even when yachts are stored in boat yards they are still at risk. Without adequate yacht insurance, boat owners could end up footing the bill of replacing stolen items themselves.
