Posted on November 24th 2008
Two experienced sailors were rescued after been lost at sea for four days. The men were travelling from Palmer to Tarragona Spain when their 44ft motorboat sunk in two minutes after been hit by a 20ft wave. The men were lucky enough to get on their inflatable life raft.
The sailor’s wife made a call to Thames coastguard, who alerted the international coastguard, liaison station at Falmouth. Coastguards in Madrid launched a search operation, which included ships and helicopters to find the missing men.
The sailor’s wife became concerned after not hearing from her husband since Wednesday. The last time she spoke to him they had hit high seas and conditions were not good.
The men managed to survive on bottled water and dried biscuits until they were rescued. The two experienced sailors were taken to hospital suffering from hypothermia but are both believed to be doing well.
