Windy go Environmentally Friendly
Posted on March 14th 2008
Windy boats manufacturers are doing their bit for the environment and producing leaner, greener models to their range, to increase their environmental sustainability.
The first ‘greener’ boat that they produced in January was the Windy 44 Chinook; the next is a Windy 48 Triton, which will be unveiled in June.
Windy have been working hard for 2 years to develop a more friendly way of building the boats, firstly by abolishing the use of tropical wood for interior and exterior finishes and replacing them with sustainably sourced light oak and in place of Teak they have used steamed ash.
The Norwegian Manufacturers have been working with Volvo Penta to develop an engine for their new generation of lighter boats that will reduce the amount of carbon emissions and improve fuel efficiency.
Windy are not only trying to develop the use of wood they use but they are also trying to evaluate their use of glues, adhesives and liquid products alike to not only protect the environment but also their employees.
