Boat Insurance News: Vigiles overloads on seaweed
Posted on September 07th 2009
The launch of the updated Vigiles, a fire-fighting boat, of the coast of Plymouth on Wednesday 2 September was suppose to celebrate the very latest in fire-fighting coastal equipment.
However with the mayor of Plymouth, Ken Foster and the city's chief fire officer onboard, the Vigiles ran into difficulty when her jet stream engines overloaded with seaweed. As the power ground to a halt, the new recently refitted Vigiles drifted onto the rocks round Plymouth harbour.
Eventually the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) had to be called out to rescue the fire-fighting boat from the rocks.
Yet the Coxswain still remained positive and that these minor problems were just 'teething issues.' He remained confident that the boat would remain a vital part of fire- fighting around the harbour and commented that the Vigiles had also been used for search and rescue operations and even pollution control.
