Boat Insurance News: Thieves steal engines from popular tourist boat
Posted on September 21st 2009
Thieves may have ruined the livelihood for one business man in Southwold, after they stole 2 engines from his boat which he uses for his prosperous boat trips along the river Blyth and out at sea.
The Coastal Voyager, a 26ft long inflatable boat, is based at Southwold Harbour and runs from the use of two Mercury Optimax 200 outboard engines worth more than £30,000. They were both removed from the boat between Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 of September. It is supposed that the boat was taken downstream to Reydon where an additional boat was pulled alongside the vessel to remove its large engines; a vehicle was then loaded and carried on along Quay Lane.
This looks as if this was a well thought plan and that thieves new exactly what they were going to do that night. They would have waited for the tide to come in before they were able to remove the outboard engines and hidden in the darkness so that no one could see what was going on.
Boat owner, Mr Gladwell, is concerned that he will have to stop the running of his boat business due to the limitations of his boat insurance as it will cost him at least £31,000 to replace the engines including the fittings required.
