Boat Insurance News: The National trust fined thousands after illegal activity
Posted on February 25th 2010
The National Trust has been fined in excess of £10,000 after allowing their boat license for the Brownsea Enterprise passenger boat to expire in May last year. The vessel would regularly carry up to 37 passengers and 2 crew members around Brownsea Island from Poole Harbour.
The National Trust pleaded guilty to the charges at Bournemouth Magistrates Court and received fines of £5,000 and ordered to pay £5,653 in costs. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) told how the National Trust did not contact them until a month after their passenger certificate and domestic safety management certificate expired.
Regardless of their expired licence the trust continued to operate the vessel carrying hundreds of passengers around the island illegally.
The licence has since been renewed and the service has continued as normal.
