Short or long stay

Waveney District Council have made plans to change the use of over a dozen moorings from the Broads in Beccles to private use only. Councillors in the area have warned that this will have a negative effect on the towns tourism by reducing the number of visitors that arrive though the use the quay.
The plans are to include the change of 15 open moorings down the River Waveney into private lease only.
Beccles is one of the main towns used as a passage into the southern Broads and is host to 109 moorings, 81 of which are currently used as visiting moorings. Waveney District Council currently runs the use of the quay and is also responsible for the charges to use the moorings.
The argument to change the moorings consists of the council's case that recent years have seen the traffic though the quay drop with the moorings rarely reaching their full capacity. They say that by turning the unused moorings into permanent ones it may attract more vessels as well as generating the council more money.
