Boat Insurance News: Search for missing person stopped
Posted on November 27th 2009
A small boat was found stranded in the middle of the River Dart in Devon, which sparked a search and rescue mission, as bystanders feared a man over board situation.
The river was swollen as a result of the recent torrential downpours the UK has faced and would have left the river in full spate so anyone in the water would find it almost impossible to swim. Emergency services where quick to react to the incident where the sent out a rescue helicopter and two lifeboats along with a crew of coastguards in order to search for the suspected missing person.
The search was later called off after no one had been reported missing and the craft is reported to have been stolen. It is now presumed that the culprit has missed the last ferry across the river so had stolen a boat to cross and is now laying low to avoid charges.
