Sea rescue carried out by local fisherman
Posted on October 12th 2009
A Fisherman, who was carrying out a boat trip with his Father in Law last weekend, was proud to have been of help in a sea rescue.
The fisherman from Weston was out with his Father in Law on Sunday October 4 fishing off of his boat in Exmouth, Devon when he received a radio call from the coastguards. He was informed that a couple had become stranded in their vessel in Teignmouth after the engine decided to pack in.
Mr Derrick was only a few miles from the catastrophe so agreed that he would go out to the marooned sailors and see if he could be of any help in his 20ft vessel, equipped with a powerful engine. On arrival he found the vessel was easy to tow, it was only 17ft long and not too heavy for his dominant engine.
Once the boat had been hooked up and Mr Derrick knew that he would be able to get them back to safety he informed the coastguards of his help.
