The Duke of Edinburgh is to be at the opening of the newly restored Yarmouth Pier. Yarmouth Pier is one of the Uk’s longest wooden piers. The pier has recently been awarded a £350500 grant as it was being eaten by gribbles.(Gribbles are any of several small wood-boring marine isopod crustaceans of the genus Limnoria, especially L.lignorum, which often damage underwater wooden structures).
Yarmouth pier opened in 1876, the pier was used for paddle steamers to bring passengers from Lymington to the Isle of Wight. It has become a feature of the town ever since.
