Riverdance destroyed by storms
Posted on March 25th 2008
The Riverdance ferry, which was washed upon the sands of Blackpool beach after the storms on 31st January, has now been declared a constructive loss.
The ferry has been sinking deeper in to the sands over the last seven weeks, since the freak waves forced her to run aground at Anchorsholme.
Storms that have hit Britain over the last 2 weeks have caused significant damage to the ship, destroying her to the point where she will never sail again.
The salvage team are intending to remove the Riverdance in one piece by attempting to re-float her using mechanical winch devises, however if this fails the Riverdance will have to be cut up on the beach.
New proposals are currently being prepared for the salvage of the ferry and the situation should be clarified at the end of the week as to what will be happening next.
Since running aground on its sail from Northern Ireland to Heysham, the Riverdance has become a major tourist attraction, bringing many visitors to the area.
