Returning Dover to Dover gathers pace
Posted on May 02nd 2008
There have been calls for the former cross channel ferry Dover to be returned to its namesake port as a tourist attraction.
The 43 year old Dover, currently called the Tuxedo Royale, is laid up in Hartlepool and was retired from cross channel service in 1981.
The former ship’s purser has called for the ship to be brought back and turned into a floating attraction and become the focal point for the newly redeveloped Wellington dock.
The Dover already has extensive bars and lounges and is easily large enough to be converted for use as a hotel with conference facilities and a museum.
