Red diesel increase in price may create theft
Posted on October 31st 2008
One of the UK’s leading boat insurers Navigators and General are warning boat owners to be careful and alert in the future of the fuel in their boat. The warning comes as the new EU regulations cause the price of red diesel to increase with the increased threat of it being stolen.
On 1st November 2008 all privately owned boat owners will be charger the higher price for red diesel moving the price of 76p up to the EU standard of £1.50. Due to the UK being part of the EU it has to fall into this top rate fuel duty for red diesel.
The insurance giant is warning boat owners about having their fuel stolen as the real danger is when a skipper goes out to sea thinking that he was lots of fuel to then find there self stranded at sea.
A lot of boat owners have contacted their insurance company asking advice on security for their boat. If you imagine a 46ft motorboat could hold 1600 litres of diesel, charging the new price of £1.50 per litre would mean a full tank costing £2,400, a lot of money in the current climate.
Make sure that you have the right insurance in place for your boat by going to www.insuremyboat.co.uk and getting a quotation from the leading boat insurance company in the UK.
