Portsmouth yacht owners keeping Hampshire lifeboats busy
Posted on July 16th 2008
It would appear that some yacht owners in the Portsmouth area could do with a spot of training.
In one twelve hour period the lifeboat was called out three times to rescue yachts that had gotten into distress.
The first had run out of diesel south of Portsmouth harbour and had to be towed back to port (obviously something wrong with the sails then).
A second hit an ‘obstruction’ near the harbour entranced and had to be towed to Gosport marina after it started to take on water.
And the third that got stuck on the port marker where it stayed until it was released to go on it’s way by the lifeboat.
Maybe a campaign for yacht handling training classes should be started up by some of the sailing schools in the area.
