Planning granted for Mary Rose Museum
Posted on February 16th 2009
Planning permission has been granted by the Portsmouth City Council for the new design of the museum which will be housing the Tudor Warship, the Mary Rose.
To enable them to secure a full grant the Mary Rose Trust must raise a further £7 million to make it possible for the build at the £35 million museum.
The Museum, which was designed by Wilkinson Eyres, was inspired by a wooden Jewellery Box. It will house the remains of the ship’s hull, among thousands of unseen artefacts.
John Lippiett, the Trusts Chief Executive commented that now we have planning approval and successfully raised half the money we are positive to raise the remainder.
