Penarth put new boat to the test

The RNLI from Penarth have taken shipment of their new life boat the Atlantic 85 and it has already been put to the test. The crew received the boat in February and have already run a variety of exercises to familiarise themselves with the new craft. The Penarth crew then received a call from the coastguard alerting them to three youths that where stranded. Fortunately the new vessel helped the crew perform a quick and safe rescue and returned the kids to the coastguard.
The new lifeboat has a range of high-tech features which include new navigation equipment, radar and a VHF direction finder. The boat is also capable of a higher top speed and topped out can reach 35 knots. The Atlantic 85 measures 8.5 metres long which includes survivor space, which makes it the idea rescue vessel.
