October Race for Robot Boats
Posted on May 21st 2008
A race will take place between six robot boats across the Atlantic later this year. The boats will set sail from Portugal, ending the voyage in the Caribbean.
The three-month journey will test the survival and reliability of these solar powered vessels. The idea behind the race is to challenge the machines away from battery chargers and out of laboratory conditions, with only enough power to operate the main boats functions.
Due to the boats not being manned by a human, manned craft are advised to stay clear!
