Narrow boat owner is forced off canal
Posted on October 16th 2009
Waterways officials have had to revoke the boating licence from one narrow boat owner in Bath after his failure to move his move his vessel on a regular basis.
Mr Gill has lived on his canal boat in various locations along Baths waterways for 14 years and has taken up a job in the town delivering Metro newspapers. His movements along the water have only been small, just enough to keep to his waterways licence which notes he must move every 14 days, apart from a couple of months ago when he was ill making it more difficult for him so he stayed in the same place for a little longer than usual.
The canal boat is currently covered in banners to protest against the waterways officials, who have stated that he must move on at least a couple of miles, however the boat does not have any engines so moving can be a struggle and it also means he will be further from his work.
48 year old Mr Gill is currently living on the Kennet and Avon Canal illegally until the waterways try and take him to court; but locals have shown their support by signing a petition to help him stay as they feel he is of no harm.
Insure My Boat can provide your canal boat with boat insurance for protection whilst out on the waters.
