Boat Insurance News: Moored boat is targeted by thugs
Posted on September 25th 2009
Witnesses watched in shock from their apartment block as youths set a visitors boat on fire at Brentford Lock, Brentford in the late hours of Friday September 18.
Two thugs were seen walking alongside the canal in Brentford when they were spotted throwing a petrol bomb upon deck of a GRP cruiser by residents living in a housing development along the canal side; the boat, which went up in flames within minutes also set fire to a nearby canal boat causing damage to the bow.
Fire fighters were called to the blaze, which was reaching 20 to 30 feet high in flames. The fire had caused the boat to break free from its rope and drift down the canal, narrowly missing other moored boats, terrifying witnesses who were unsure if anyone was asleep on the other vessels.
Hounslow police are calling for any witnesses to come forward who may have any information on the GRP cruiser or the two white youths, aged around 16-25 who were seen running from the scene of the crime.
