Posted on November 20th 2009
A veteran fisherman has died after falling overboard at Bell Rock off Arbroath yesterday. The 52-year-old man was in the water for a little less than five minutes but this was enough time for him to need urgent medical attention. The coastguard where quick to react to the accident after crewmen of the vessel sent out the alert. CPR was quickly administered but it soon became very clear that the man needed more substantial treatment.
The fisherman was taken to Ninewells Hospital by RAF Boulmers rescue helicopter but later died as a result of his injuries. The vessel Optik was taken to Arbroath Harbour where it will be examined by the Marine Accident investigation Branch and the police for any information that can add an insight into how this accident happened.
