Makeshift rafts leads teens to danger

Six youths are lucky to be alive after their makeshift raft failed them whilst trying to cross the Belfast Lough.
The six, who were aged between 12 and 18, had attempted to cross the Belfast Lough when their makeshift raft started drifting, leading them in to a shipping lane. Spotters by noticed the youngsters, who weren’t wearing lifejackets and called the coast gurard leading to a major rescue operation.
None of the youths were wearing lifejackets and were leading to more danger as they lead to much deeper, colder waters.
One passer by, who was an experienced surfer, noticed the troubled teens to jumped into the water to help with the operation, which involved three boats and two helicopters.
Three of the six youths who was upon the raft, which had been constructed from polystyrene blocks, nails and timber, disappeared after the rescue, however the three others were treated with hypothermia.
