Maiden voyage has a rocky start

Posted on July 01st 2009

A crew of five-left Teesside on its maiden voyage not knowing that this journey may well be their last. The conditions in the area where poor with a mist settling on the water meaning that visibility for the crew would be limited, unfortunately for the crew the mist was the least of their worries as their engine failed leaving them stranded with no radio or flare gun onboard. 'Visibility has been very poor over the last 24 hours, and it was only because of the vigilance of the lookout at Coastwatch that the alarm was raised.' Said Dave Cocks of the RNLI.

The RNLI crew arrived to see that two of the crew had jumped overboard in an attempt to try and push the vessel away from the rocks. A local fishing boat crew had reacted quickly by attaching a line to the stranded vessel helping keep the boat away from the rocks. The crew from the RNLI then attached a towing rope to the boat and towed the vessel to the towns lifeboat station.
