Life Boat rescues 36 ft yacht
Posted on October 20th 2008
A RNLI Bangor lifeboat were called out to rescue three people after a distress call was made on Saturday at 3:50pm by a 36 ft yacht which ran aground at Greys point close to the shore at Crawfordsburn beach.
The yacht was caught up in tidal waves, which made the rescue difficult for the lifeboat which had to wait for calmer weather before they could perform the rescue.
The RNLI Bangor said that calm weather and sea conditions allowed volunteers to rig a rope to the stranded yacht. They moved the yacht from the rocks into deeper water. By towing the yacht to deeper water you are preventing the crew aboard getting into danger while trying to minimise damage to their boat.
The yacht didn’t appear to have any damage and was able to make its own way back to the safety of Bangor Marina.
