Leave the dolphins in peace
Posted on July 28th 2008
Boaters have been asked to act responsibly around marine wildlife entering our coastal waters by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust (CWT).
This is following reports that people in a RIB were chasing a group of dolphins off the south coast of Cornwall, and follows the succesful prosecution of two men, earlier in the year, of harrassing a dolphin.
Marine life such as dolphins and basking sharks are protected by law from being disturbed either intentionally or recklessly.
The main worry for the CWT is the distress caused to animals, changing their natural behaviour, and the risk of injury to them from propellers and jet skis in which they have been seeing an increasing number of cases.
