Inflatable boat capsized
Posted on March 16th 2009
Redcar RNLI had to send two lifeboats to rescue a boat that capsized.
It is believed that the crew of a motor cruiser had used a 7ft inflatable to leave the craft to go for a meal at the ship inn. On their return the skipper managed to drop his wife off safely on the craft, however when he returned to shore to collect other crewmembers his craft capsized.
The man was rescued by the Redcar who managed to transfer a crewmember to the motor cruiser to assist the skipper’s wife who was alone on the boat. The rescue boats managed to rescue the skipper while the other boat collected the remaining crew from shore to return them to the vessel.
No one was hurt and that was thanks to the quick response time of the local lifeboats and their crew. The area where the boat capsized is a well-known fishing spot where many larger boats have capsized with fatal injuries.
