Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded Historic ships £31m
The Mary Rose, King Henry VIII’s flagship, has been given £21m to help finish its final stage of conservation work and build of a museum to house the ship and all of the artefacts found on the sea bed.
The current Mary Rose museum can only display approximately 6 percent of the artefacts found; once the new build has been complete in Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard this will display 70 percent of the artefacts as well as the ship itself.
£10m has been granted to the Cutty Sark to add to the £11.75m awarded in September last year to cover the damage caused in the fire last May.
