Hartlepool have big plans for ship
Posted on October 19th 2009
Hartlepool Marina have invested in a boat that was previously owned by the late James Edwin Atkinson, a well known man to the town who enjoyed spending time and learning about the town's history and links with the sea.
The 51ft large sailing vessel, which will be named James Atkinson, will be transformed into a training boat, with the help of £140,000 of funding to become one of the towns main attractions. As well as being equipped with a class room below deck for the use of education relating to the sea, it will also be available for hire for evening cruises.
Bosses of Hartlepool marina are very excited about the ship, which will probably take six months to renovate. James Atkinson had wanted it to be used as a sail training boat so they are proud to be able to dedicate it in his memory, providing children as well as adults with a chance to learn about radar and navigational equipment, as well as how to sail a ship.
Insure My Boat has been designed to provide you with boat insurance for carefree sailing.
