Groupama 3s voyage home
Posted on March 12th 2008
Groupama 3 has now been loaded upon the Eglantiesgracht, a 140m long Dutch cargo ship, which is usually used for the transportation of fruit and vegetables, only 3 weeks after it capsized off of the coast of New Zealand.
The maxi-trimaran was carefully craned aboard the ship, under the watchful eye of Jean-Marc Normand and Oliver Mainguy, along with the float and pieces of mast, which were damaged in the Pacific Ocean.
It will take approximately five weeks to get Groupama 3 back to France, where it will be unloaded in Lorient or Brittany.
During the time of its travel the build of the new mast and float will begin. Before this can begin however, the 2 teams needs to establish how the damage was caused to allow them to make relevant modifications to be made to hopefully prevent it from happening again.
