Flaming good time on maiden voyage
Posted on October 01st 2008
A first voyage in years should be a remembered trip, for one Merseyside man for almost the wrong reasons when a fire on board the 36ft wooden cabin cruiser threatened to ignite the gas canisters and blow up the vessel.
The man and two friends where around 2 miles offshore and had a mechanical or electrical fault on the vessel. The fault caused sparks to ignite a fire onboard. Smoke began to bellow out of the vessel while flames took hold of the boat.
The three men were rescued when a passing fishing boat picked them from the boat and later took them to shore.
A lifeboat crew picked up fire fighters with heat seeking equipment and went out to the vessel to put out the blaze.
Make sure you have the correct boat insurance in place in case of any incidents where you are at risk. Go to www.insuremyboat.co.uk and get a quotation today.
