Boat Insurance News: Fishing boat rescued just off the Cornwall coast

An 8-hour rescue of a fishing trawler off the coast of Cornwall ended in success on wednesday, after a wave smashed into the boat, flooding the vessel. The incident occurred at around 0300 BST involving the vessel Lola K after the wave damaged the electrics.
When the crew tried to call the incident in to Falmouth coastguard the transmission was cut off midway through as a result of the damaged electrics. Fortunately the coastguard were able to get a rough idea on their location and lifeboats from St Ives and Penlee where quick to track down the stranded vessel.
The emergency services where shocked to find the crew of the vessel waist deep in what was thought to be around 2-tonnes of water inside the hull. Fortunately no one was injured in this incident although the damages to the boat will cost the owner thousands of pounds to repair.
A spokesman from the RNLI said: "The conditions as we launched were challenging, the seas were actually breaking over the top of the tractor... then we had to head out into a north easterly wind of force six to seven and a horrid, lumpy sea."
