Fishing boat destroyed by fire
Posted on January 15th 2010
A 15ft fishing boat has been destroyed at a marina in Gosport, which occurred on Monday night at around 6.30pm. There were several emergency services at the scene, which included; the police, fire crews and Solent coastguard. Fortunately there was no one on board at the time of the fire although the owner of the vessel is still unknown.
Emergency services where quick to arrive on the scene of the fire but due to the wooden build of the vessel they where unable to save it from complete destruction.
Kev Roberts from Gosport fire station said: "It was completely destroyed by the fire. It was well alight when we got there and there was not a lot we could do.
"I don't know how the fire started, until we track down the owner we won't know. It could have been a heater left on or linseed oil on a rag that spontaneously combusted, but I don't know. I don't think it was arson."
