Fire fighting vessel tested leading to rescue
Posted on September 19th 2008
Halifax harbour yesterday tested a controversial fire-fighting boat, which ended in eight people being chucked overboard when the boat flipped over.
The vessel is a 28-foot California-built boat costing $250,000. Local boat builders reacted angrily when they heard the news that the vessel was being bought. The purchase of the vessel was on condition of the test run out from the harbour.
The boat has been tested across this week and until this incident was doing very well in calm waters and rougher seas. When the boat overturned it threw eight people overboard leaving then bobbing in the harbour waters.
A rescue team set out to rescue the now victims in the water, plucking the most injured first. All eight people that were on board including fire fighters, a student and boat sellers were all taken to hospital with minor injuries.
