Fire breaks out at boat yard
Posted on December 02nd 2009
A fire caused damage to three narrow boats at the Canal Cruising Company of Stone last week, causing two of the vessels to sink. One of the craft belonged to the author Terry Darlington, who was known to have used his vessel in countries such as France and the US.
Narrowboat owner and yard worker, Leo McCloskey, prevented further spread of the flames when he motored other boats away from the flames. Mr McCloskey also restricted damage by rescuing one of the burning vessels mooring lines from the water and tying it up, after noticing the vessel was drifting towards other craft.
This fire is one of many that have occurred in the UK recently, which sends a message to all boat owners to ensure they have their vessels insured against these unforeseen events.
