Fined for sailing in one way lane
Posted on October 03rd 2008
A man has been fined £6000 for sailing the wrong way along a Dover straits shipping lane.
The gentleman was delivering a 36ft motor cruiser from Brighton through to the river crouch. As he did so he sailed down the wrong way on the Dover separation scheme.
The coastguard tried to reach the skipper for over 50 minutes with no luck. Their main concern was that the skipper was causing danger for other boats going the correct way in the shipping lane also in return endangering himself.
The incident, that happened on 5th of march this year was settled by a magistrate fining the man the £6000.
