Extra precautions to be taken as coastguards strike
Posted on July 18th 2008
Holiday makers and boat users are being advised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to be extra careful this weekend due to the strike of coast guards (18th – 20th July) across the UK, which has been called by the Public and Commercial Services Union.
Arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the MCA provide an emergency service to beach, cliff and sea users, however boat users must be extra vigilant this weekend before going afloat.
Standard safety must be put in practise before taking to the water, such as checking weather forecasts, skippers should ensure all on board are wearing life jackets and have warm clothes on board should you experience a breakdown.
The MCA chief executive and urged boaters to not only look after themselves, but also keep a look out for anything that could be dangerous or putting others lives at risk and contact the shore as soon as possible.
