Engines stolen from boat outside home
Posted on October 07th 2009
A boat owner in Hunmanby has been the latest to fall victim in thefts of motor engines from boats.
The vessel was outside the owner's home, when thieves stole 2 engines worth around £3,500. They also stole a 12 volt battery, a spare fuel tank and a box containing a VHF radio icom, a GPS Garmin sat nav and a fishfinder Lawrence.
The specialist engines are marked up with unique serial numbers so they can be easily traced by the police who are currently carrying out the investigation. One of the engines, a black Mercury 115HP Outboard engine, would have had to have been moved by a few people due to its weight and would not fit into a car; the other engine, a white Johnson 4HP auxiliary motor was small enough, however it was fitted to the boat with two locking nuts.
Anybody who has any information on the engines should contact North Yorkshire Police.
