Emergency search launched after capsized boat found
Posted on April 29th 2009
A search and rescue mission was launched Saturday night down the river Ouse after a member of the public spotted a capsized dinghy and reported it to the policy. A coastguard helicopter was dispatched, a lifeboat launched and fire and police crews where called out and spent hours searching for the missing crew. Police later found the owners who advised that the boat had capsized earlier while they where on board but they had swam to shore and abandoned the vessel.
This rescue operation could have been prevented if the crew of the boat had called the police or coastguard and advised them of the trip and that the incident had occurred but they where all safe, Bill Daniels the Duty Inspector said: “It is a bit like if you car breaks down you leave a note saying I'm well, but I've gone to this location.”
