Cunards Three Queens meet for 1st and only time in Southampton
Posted on March 27th 2008
Cunards Three Queens will be meeting for the first and only time in Southampton on 22nd April 2008. Promising a time to remember for British Maritime Enthusiasts.
Although the 3 liners have already met for the first time ever in New York this year and the QE2 and QM2 met up in Sydney, this will be more of a significant occasion with Southampton being their homeport. 2008 is also the QE2's retirement year.
Cunards president and managing director is hoping that as many people as possible can witness such a historic event.
Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria will be saluting, what is said to arguably be the most famous and beloved liner in the world, the QE2, on the day that she will be celebrating her 39th anniversary of her official entry into service in 1969.
The event will occur at 5pm, when QM2 will leave her berth at the Queen Elizabeth II terminal and then proceed up river to get as close as possible to Queen Victoria and QE2. Here all ships will sound their whistles before departing.
