Cruise ship attacked by pirates
Posted on December 03rd 2008
Dozens of British passengers were on board a luxury cruise ship having the time of their lives when pirates struck the vessel. The average price paid by passengers is £15,000 per person but the passengers didn’t expect to be attacked by pirates whilst crossing the Somali coast.
Two small boats approached the ship carrying 690 passengers and 386 crewmembers. One of the two boats managed to get into 300 yards of the ship whilst firing rifle shots at the vessel. The amount of cruise ships taken over by pirates is in the minority compared to other types of vessels. Anti-piracy forces have kept numbers down over the years patrolling the waters and watching ships.
No one on board was injured in the attack; they will arrive in Oman today.
