Christmas cards for those at sea
Mission for Seafarers and the National Maritime Museum in Cornwall have launched a campaign to share some festive joy with those working at sea for Christmas.
Until the 16th December, visitors to the museum will be able to design cards for those working at sea over Christmas. The Mission to Seafarers will then be getting the cards out in time for Christmas.
The project was inspired by the Robert Louis Stevenson poem, Christmas at Sea:
And O the wicked fool I seemed, in every kind of way,
To be here and hauling frozen ropes on blessed Christmas Day.
Children can also enter a competition to win free passes to the museum and tickets for its new family film programme. The overall winning artwork will also be exhibited on the museum's website.
Debs Rogers, education assistant at the National Maritime Museum, said: 'I would like the children who take part in this activity to think about mariners who are far from their families this Christmas and to draw and write whatever comes to mind. I'm sure there will be some very endearing messages!'
