Boat Insurance News: Canoeists hit trouble on loch ness
Posted on September 30th 2009
Crews from Loch Ness RNLI were called out last week, after a group of canoeists got themselves into trouble when their twin hulled craft became engulfed in water as gale force winds created strong waves upon the loch.
Trouble started when the waves started reaching 2 meters high, filling the 30ft boat with water. The crew, who were all experienced boaters, were tourists from Yorkshire visiting the pleasant area to take in the untouched scenery and hoping to spot the loch ness monster. With the weather as fierce as it was they began to realise that going out on the boat may have been a bad idea and headed back to land.
The crew were able to get to the shoreline, however due to the weather conditions they became stuck at the bottom of a steep slope, two of the crew volunteered to get off the boat and call for help. After two hours of hard graft from the RNLI, they managed to get the crew to safety; the vessel had to be abandoned until weather conditions improved.
