An ex British water ski champion has been found guilty after admitting to his involvement in the theft of a boat from Levington Marina worth more than £70,000. Graham Faulkner was sentenced to 300 hours of community service and was exempt from 12 months in jail. Mr Faulkner was only given the community work after the court heard how he was involved in a company that related to the World Cup and would generate £35,000 for charity, if sentenced to jail the company would collapse.
The theft involved Mr Faulkner and two others, Christopher Draper and Sean Dean, both were sentenced to 21 months in jail. The incident occurred in December 2005 when the three men gained access into Levington Marina leaving with a £55,000 Champion Chase 800 speedboat and a £17,000 Avon Adventurer.
CCTV footage from the marina showed how Mr Faulkner assisted with the thefts by gaining them access to the boat yard by lifting the barriers. During their exit Mr Draper damaged the £55,000 boat when he overshot a turning.
