Boatwatch Scheme proves to be award winning
Posted on December 08th 2008
A boat protection scheme has received praise for community co-operation. The Looe Boatwatch scheme has been set up to remove marine crime in the area.
The boat owners association, who have received a certificate of excellence from the Devon and Cornwall community watch association, has formed the scheme.
Its aim is to remove marine crime in the area and so far the level of crime has decreased by 60. The association promotes, and protects boating of any degree in the Looe area and surrounding areas. Along with its advice about boat safety, navigation and maintenance, the boatwatch scheme also arranges community activates and social events.
The scheme also can aid the police as police can use this to track all boats that come and go from the Looe area.
Further plans are under way to strengthen the scheme and theses plans will be revealed in early 2009.
