Boat Insurance News: Boathouse looks to become maritime museum
Posted on April 27th 2009
Following the closure of the RNLI’s lifeboat station in Exmouth, Devon, this summer, it looks to be eventually turned into a seafront maritime museum after the boathouse upon the Esplanade becomes unused.
Steve Gazzard, the Towns Councillor wants to see the disused boathouse used to reflect Exmouth’s long maritime tradition, although options are open for any suggestion.
The boathouse is currently rented out by East Devon District Council and rented out to the RNLI, and with the new multi million pound boat house opening in June they feel that it would be a great focal point for visitors to view the relationship the town has with the sea.
The new boathouse for the RNLI will be the 4th built in the town, following the first being washed away during a storm, the second was knocked down and the 3rd was built in its place.
