Boat crime needs reporting
Posted on August 11th 2008
Over the past five years reported theft and criminal damage has been running at about 40 incidents per month. These figures do not include the many occurrences similar that have not been reported.
The figures that have been obtained under the freedom of information act are as accurate as can be, although due to un-reported happenings this figure could be higher.
Expensive electronics and gadgets are part of any boat owners dream so you will want to make sure that these items are not stolen. These items can include radios and navigation equipment.
Outboard motors can also fetch a lot of money, reaching £10,000 and due to the increase in fuel costs; fuel and its tanks are now on the hot list for thieves.
Police are suggesting removing expensive equiptment from your vessel when the boat is not in use. They are also asking anyone that has an incident to report it so that something can be done.
