Boat Blaze disaster
Posted on April 01st 2009
Two men were hailed as heroes after their quick thinking helped prevent a major disaster.
The father and son duo noticed smoke coming from one of the boats at Denver cruising club quickly ran over to help extinguish the fire. It is believed that the fire quickly spread to several other boats in a short space of time. The pair risked their lives trying to stop the fire from spreading and had to duck from exploding gas canisters.
The men used a hose pipe from the bank to create a cooling spray to protect themselves from the fire as they attempted to board a vessel next to the burning boat so that they could create a barrier to save other vessels and protect the club house going up in smoke.
The boating club is counting the costs of the accidental fire which was spread quickly due to the strong winds, four boats were destroyed in the disaster, however it could have been far worse if the heroic men had not helped. They are waiting for an investigation to reveal how the fire was started.
