Boat thief joins lifeboat crew in Isle of Wight
Posted on October 23rd 2009
An Isle of Wight teenager, who had to be rescued by Ryde Inshore Lifeboat back in March after running into trouble in a stolen boat, is making amends to the lifeguard team.
Jack, along with his brother and a friend had to be rescued by the Ryde Inshore Lifeboat team after the boat that they stole and decided to take for a ride ran into trouble underneath Ryde Pier. All three were taken back to safety; however Jack was arrested and given a referral order, contracting him to volunteer for a charitable organisation.
Jack was passed to one charity, which referred him on to the Ryde Inshore Lifeboat crew, requiring him to carry out a day's work with them as well as helping them raise money in their shop. It has given the young teenagers an insight into everything that the lifeboat crew do to help those who become stranded and in danger in their boats.
