Boat owners face increase in mooring charge
Posted on October 14th 2009
Gwynedd Council have been approached by boat owners for a freeze on the mooring rates they are currently being charged at Hafan Pwllheli marina.
A 4 percent rise is currently being considered by the council, however the boat owners are stressing that this is something that they are not going to be able to afford due to the current recession. Council officials have commented that they are trying their best, but they must do whatever is best for the towns marina and keep it in line with the 2010/2011 inflation.
Pwllheli Mooring and Berth Holders Association (PMBHA) had written to the council following an investigation made by the members found that the berths that were being provided with electricity were being charged 3 percent more than those without, this was providing the council with a profit of £20,000 when the electic was actually costing them just £5,400.
A meeting will be held between Gwynedd Council and the PMBHA this week to discuss how these issues can be resolved to enable the existing boat owners to continue mooring at Hafan Pwllheli marina.
