Boat fire inquiry date set
Posted on March 19th 2010
A formal investigation has been launched after a fishing boat that killed three crew after catching fire is set to start this summer. The incident occurred in August 2008 and it has yet to have been discovered how the fire initially started. At the time of the incident the 90ft vessel was berthed at Fraserburgh harbour where it was due for a refit.
After the accident the Department of Transport's Marine Accident Investigation Branch carried out an investigation but could not determine the exact cause of the fire. Although they did publish a report ruling out the possibility of the fire starting from inside the galley. However they did suspect that the possible cause was from either a lit cigarette or faulty heater.
The date for the fatal accident inquiry has been set for the 20th of July and is to be held at Peterhead Sheriff Court for the duration of three days.
