Boat crime is on the rise
Posted on November 02nd 2009
Over the past three months, 26 incidents involving boat crime has been reported to the Essex Police Marine Unit, which is a cause for concern.
Boat owners in the area are being warned to lock up their equipment and ensure all their security devises are in place to protect engines, as these appear to be the target for the thieves. Between October 17 and October 20 two outboard engines were stolen from two different vessels, both worth more than £300. In another incident in the area during the same period two other engines were stolen from vessels, on this occasion damage was also caused.
A Malden Police inspector commented that they are doing the best they can to find out who is behind the boat crimes. The dramatic rise in thefts has only been recent, and has reflected that the criminals will go to all extents to get to the equipment.
